Spring Time Trout Fishing in Northern NH
Pike Pond Cabins sets in the middle of Coos County in Northern NH and is surrounded by Lakes, Ponds, Rivers and streams that are too numerous to name. Among the most notable are Big and Little Diamond Ponds just East of Colebrook in Coleman State Park and Trio Ponds which are located in the Nash Stream Forest. For generations we have had some excellent Trout fishing in these ponds but if you consider that there are several dozen ponds and lakes that are scattered throughout the same area you can begin to see why we say that the fishing experience in this area is truly extraordinary.
The Pond fishing heats up first and then the Rivers and Streams follow several weeks later giving us excellent fishing opportunities through the summer and then into fall when the water begins to cool down offering the combination of a fishing and hunting experience in October that few people are aware of and even fewer ever try.
My passion is for the fly fishing and the thrill of fooling old Mr. Trout with one of my rather primitive reproductions of some old favorite patterns like the Grasshopper, Muddler or a Hornburg. I truly enjoy the thought during this whole process that I can land a Trout and be relatively sure that I can release unharmed that fish to be caught another day. The young people who first come to visit us will be pleasantly surprised that I haven’t forgotten the techniques that my Dad and Grandfather taught me using worms and night crawlers to entice Trout to the dinner table since the intricacies of fly fishing would certainly be more challenging than many of our younger friends might be able to tolerate and wouldn’t it be a shame if we discouraged someone from enjoying what we have come to love and cherish. Maybe someday some of these youngsters will take up the art of “Fly Fishing” and help the next generation to appreciate what we have.
Late May and early June are the best times to fish the local Lakes and Ponds in our area and then the Androscoggin River which runs along the eastern border of New Hampshire really fires up. The Alder Fly Hatch that occurs during that time makes the Brookies, Rainbows and Browns act like an old Buck during the fall rut and the fishing can be extraordinary. Late in June and through the month of July. the fishing in the Connecticut, along the Western border of NH, can be equally as exciting with some huge Browns and Brookies being taken not infrequently.
Pike Pond Cabins Is centrally located to all of these fishing opportunities and I know the people throughout this region who can make your fishing experience a most enjoyable one.
Atlantic Salmon Fishing in New Brunswick
I have fished for the last fifteen years on The Miramachi River system in New Brunswick for Atlantic Salmon. The relationship that I have built with a guide has given me the opportunity to offer several fishing trips throughout the Summer and Fall of 2009. If there any fishermen who are interested in taking a trip to that area I can make the arrangements and the contacts for the trip.
The cabins where we fish are simple but comfortable and the guides are the best that I have ever met. It is hard for me to tell you how it feels to hook, land and release four fish before noon in one day but that has happened to me on more than one occasion.
